The hubby and I took a quick trip down to Tampa this past weekend to see Danielle Walker from Againt All Grain (with Angie Young which was the best combo) we enjoyed watching them cook, hearing her story live and getting to listen to the Q & A. PLUS, getting to try the food from her book! Man, it was SO good and I can’t wait to start cooking some recipes from it! We stayed in a pretty awesome airbnb right across from Armature Works where the book tour event was held.
It was cool getting to try her recipes from the book so while she talked about where the inspiration came from you were tasting what she meant! There were samples from her cookbook that were passed around for you to try and they were delicious. She had butter scotch pudding with snickerdoodles, cauliflower hummus, and seasoned sweet potato fries (which is a terrible picture of them because they were gone so fast :P).
For me getting to go to this event was awesome! I have been waiting so long for one of my favorite bloggers/writers to bring their book tour to Florida! It’s somehow not a common place to come. Seeing Danielle Walker for me was especially special.
I found Against All Grain when I was newly diagnosed with RA at 17 years old and felt really hopeless, honestly. I felt like I would never live a normal life. Much like her story... the doctors told me there was no cure, there was nothing I could do but meds. Then, I found Whole30 and Against All Grain and it changed my life. I realized I COULD do these things and I COULD get off of the meds.
So that’s kind of why this was so special to me to go and see her in person. While we were there my husband asked what I wanted to get out of being there. As the night went on I realized what I wanted to get out of it: inspiration to keep sharing on here and help as many people as I could. Hearing the stories of those who she the Lord has let her impact is crazy. Commitment to keeping on keeping on and using this platform to glorify the Lord through the process.
We went to a few different places while in Tampa but mostly spent our time at Armature Works if you’re in the area definitely go check it out! My husband and I were starving after the event and decided to walk around ad then walked into the main market area and we were amazed! SO. MANY. OPTIONS. There was a sushi burrito place, a charcuterie board bar (WHAT! Wish I could’ve tried this but we were on the hunt for a burger) We ended up at graze because I have heard so much about it before! They had a ton of GF options and they had some burgers that sounded delicious!
After our dinner we were on the hunt for some dessert. We found a little ice cream place called astro bar. It was really fresh ice-cream that tasted so good (I know I say everything tasted good! But it really did!!)
We had plans to go to a breakfast place that served GF pancakes, because I’ve been craving pancakes like nobody’s business, but we drove by and the line was crazy and we wanted to get home because we had packing to do! We decided some Starbucks and getting on the road was the best choice. So I got my go-to breakfast from Starbucks. We also stopped at Chick-fil-a on the way home and I ordered grilled nuggets (even though they gave me regular nuggets and I decided it wasn’t worth going back) and fries but those were gone before I could even take a picture.
While nothing about this trip was perfect paleo or perfectly GF, we enjoyed our time together (first time away as a married couple!!!), enjoyed treats, and I didn’t stress about what I was eating, but I did my best because that is all I can do for living this way but keeping my sanity! Spending this time with my husband was such a blessing. I love that I get to do life with him and how he supports me and my dreams, and deals with me taking pictures of everything I eat :P
